First Church in JP '23-'24 Worship Weaver Application

Worship Weavers will meet with the Minister approximately a month before their chosen service. At this time, the two will reflect on the topic and the Worship Weaver will choose or be assigned parts of the service to work on. These will vary, but tasks could include: select opening and closing words, writing a 300-word reflection on a topic, doing the offering "ask," decorating the front table, researching a topic, and/or leading a ritual action.

Worship Weavers may also sign up to preach during the Church Year if they feel so called, and/or to serve as “liturgist,” guiding a Pulpit Guest through the process of leading worship.

We will meet as a full group a few times a year for reflection on our own theologies and to learn about worship theory and practice: how to write a prayer, creating an emotional arc in a service, responding to changes and to public life.

There are 8 positions in our Worship Weaver program, giving each person an opportunity to collaborate in worship leading at approximately one services every two months.

The commitment for our group of Worship Weavers is from November 2023-June 2024. At the end of May, it is possible to reapply for the July 2024-June 2025.

Apply to be a Worship Weaver here: share with Rev. EB about your hopes, ideas, background, and perspectives.

Note: worship weavers must have attended this and/or another UU congregation for at least six months. If you're new to UU, please reach out for other ways to get involved, including doing a reading in worship. We also hope you will apply in the next round!
